At Sotheby’s storied Magnificent Jewels auction in New York, $38.4 million worth of bling was sold, including a rare 133.03-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond for $5.5 million.
The auction featured vintage jewels from Bulgari, Tiffany & Co., Cartier and Harry Winston, as well as those owned by celebrities like Mary Tyler Moore and Barbara Sinatra.
Other notable items that sold included a necklace studded with 120 pear-shaped diamonds for $4.4 million and a necklace by Leviev, weighing over 120 carats and set with 30 variously cut diamonds, that sold for $2.4 million.
Another highlight was an extremely rare Burmese pink sapphire and diamond ring from the collection of the late show business legend Red Skelton and his wife, which soared to $1.1 million — surpassing by seven times its high estimate.
