The family office space is filled with interesting people who have access to many facets of the world because of the nature of the business. These renaissance men and women like to stay curious about a range of subjects spanning the arts and sciences. In this column, we ask three simple questions to industry heavyweights: What are you reading, watching and listening to?
Kerri Scott is the COO of Mt. Vernon Investments, the family office for Kenny and Lisa Troutt. She is responsible for developing strategies that promote wealth growth and sustainability or mitigate risk for the family.
What are you reading?
I have a few publications I read on a daily or weekly basis:
Matt Levine’s Money Stuff. I love his commentary on investment current events, plus it’s free to join his email distribution list.
Morning Brew. I’m a new follower but really enjoy it.
People magazine. I need to be able to keep up with my two college-aged kids!
As for books, I’m currently reading:
Kristin Hannah’s The Women. It’s a beautifully written historical fiction novel set during the Vietnam War.
Dr. Chris Palmer’s Brain Energy. He explores the idea that mental disorders (anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD and others) are metabolic disorders of the brain.
I’m also actually rereading one of my all-time favorite books, A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles, because they are releasing a TV series on Paramount+.
What are you watching?
I’m about to start watching "A Gentleman in Moscow" on Paramount+, but it won’t be as good as the book!
"Masters of the Air" on Apple TV+. A fantastic story of the 100th bomb group during WWII.
"The Gentlemen" on Netflix – this is what I watch when my husband gets to pick! It’s a Guy Ritchie series that is both gruesome and funny.
"Lessons in Chemistry" on Apple TV+. I loved the book, and the TV series is fantastic.
What are you listening to?
I am the only woman left on the planet who doesn’t listen to podcasts. My nose is generally stuck in a book instead.
