If you followed this week’s annual Met Gala, you may have seen something interesting on display: the Bulgari Laguna Blu worn by Priyanka Chopra Jonas, a Bulgari global ambassador, who had the pleasure of donning the diamond for the evening.
The pear-shaped, 11.16-carat stone is expected to fetch more than $25 million at Sotheby’s during its upcoming Geneva Luxury Week, running May 12-16.
The diamond is currently owned by a private European collector who purchased it in 1979 when Bulgari opened its doors, according to Sotheby’s. It’s part of a larger collection, including a step-cut 18.78-carat white diamond estimated at up to $1.4 million and a pear-shaped 12.08-carat white diamond.
“The Bulgari Laguna Blu is an extraordinary gem in every way,” Olivier Wagner, head of jewelry at Sotheby’s Geneva, told Rapaport. “This unmodified, pear-shaped blue diamond has received the highest grade for a blue diamond by the Gemological Institute of America [GIA], acknowledging its mesmerizing color and hue. It is bound to become the object of any collector’s dream.”
