Kobe Bryant’s locker from Staples Center sold for $2.9 million at a Sotheby’s auction Friday, making it the most valuable sports locker ever sold at auction.
A portion of the proceeds from the sale will go to the Los Angeles Youth Foundation. The late NBA legend used the locker during his final 13 NBA seasons with the Los Angeles Lakers from 2003-04 to 2015-16.
Sotheby’s said 19 bids were placed among four active bidders in the 20-minute auction for the locker. Bryant’s locker had been thrown out during renovations to Staples Center in 2018, but an unidentified Lakers employee retrieved the locker and then sold it for $280,000 in 2022 to a collector, according to the collectibles news publication Cllct.
