Hamptons Fine Art Fair to showcase top contemporary artists July 13-16
Artwork by famous artists such as Jackson Pollock, Williem de Kooning, Claude Monet and Henri Matisse will be on display at the Hamptons Fine Art Fair, slated for July 13-16 at the Southampton Fairgrounds.
The fourth annual event, curated by Executive Director Rick Friedman, will feature 10,000 artworks from 130 national and international galleries. Major collectors, artists, patrons, curators and interior designers alike can examine postwar and contemporary art by the likes of Pollock and de Kooning within the fair’s luxury pavilion. It will also showcase emerging artists, blue-chip masters, elegant decorative art and art that can be used as an investment.
“We’re seeing more buyers and a lot more dollars going into the acquisition of this type of artwork now since COVID,” said Friedman. “We showcase emerging art and art as an investment. We offer and we live in both of these worlds.”
Friedman explained that as an avid art collector himself, he has focused his recent efforts on acquiring work by women painters of the 1950s and 1960s who were contemporaries of Pollock but who didn’t get the recognition — until now.
“Paintings you were able to buy for $5,000 to $10,000 are now worth half a million," he said. "That’s the art world for you.”
The opening night benefit and preview July 13 is expected to attract over 3,500 guests. The next day, the fair will host a colorful and artful celebration on Bastille Day, as the LGBTQ+ community comes together to benefit the Edie Windsor & Thea Spyer Foundation.
