Art Basel, a cornerstone of the contemporary art world, recently unveiled some highlights of its 2024 edition — which includes major debuts, lively conversations and special film screenings.
The Swiss fair, whose global lead partner is UBS, will feature 286 galleries from around the world that showcase painting, sculpture, photography and digital artworks.
This year's event takes place June 13-16 at the at Messe Basel exhibition center.
Among the highlights will be Parcours, which features more than 20 site-specific public art installations; a major work by conceptual artist Agnes Denes; the 20th anniversary of Conversations, which features 25 thought leaders across 11 panel discussions about issues shaping contemporary culture; and a program of feature films for young audiences.
Another major attraction will be a reenactment of the first multimedia performance of artist Faith Ringgold, who died last week. Her work The Wake and Resurrection of the Bicentennial Negro (1976) will be presented by Goodman Gallery in collaboration with ACA Galleries.
